Don't be a Tosser!

In 2007 Councils and Resorts across North East Victoria joined forces to run the ‘Don’t be a tosser, butt it and bin it in the North East’ campaign. Thanks to the persistence and hard work of North East Councils and Alpine Resorts, cigarette butt litter was reduced by 9% in the North East region by September. Please click here to read more about the project.

Wodonga's new Detox Your Home Centre!

On the 19th May 2008 Wodonga Council with assistance from Sustainability Victoria will open their new Detox Your Home centre at the Transfer Station on Kane Road.  The centre will take paints, motor oil, fluorescent tubes, gas/BBQ cylinders, and all types of batteries (car batteries, ordinary household batteries and mobile phone batteries). Landfill Risk Assesment

Innovative geophysical surveys have been conducted to determine the extent of the waste mass and six draft rehabilitation plans have been developed for landfills across the North East by consultants URS, as stage two of the Landfill Risk Assessment Project funded through the Sustainability Fund. The photo (right) shows these geophysical surveys taking place.  Click here for more information.

Food waste behaviour change project

NevRwaste, in partnership with the Albury Wodonga Food Security Group, Charles Sturt University and the North East Greenhouse Alliance have secured funding through the Sustainability Fund to research and implement a food waste avoidance behaviour change program in the region. A tender for the research component of this program is currently being developed. For more information please contact Brooke or Elsie.
